In every area of your business you should have your target audience in mind. You should think carefully about targeting the correct audience in every design process to ensure you are heading down the right path. The best way to find out your target audience is to discover your niche.
The first step is to do a little research on your audience. Finding out key information about them will give you some insight into their lives. What do they do in their spare time? What social media do they use? What kind of holidays do they go on? What supermarkets do they use? This all seems a bit random and intrusive but the more information you can get that builds the perfect target audience profile the better. You need to relate to the audience. If you’re struggling to find out who your audience are try looking at a similar product and do some beta testing.
For example, If you discover that your audience loves extreme sports, you then need to think about the type of designs they are most attracted to. In this example they might be more attracted to colours such as red, yellow, orange and blue youthful, aggressive and exciting shades. This also applies to the type of patterning and designs you use, for extreme sports you might be more inclined to use quick and bold lines, shapes, fast strokes and exciting imagery. Think red, yellow and blue colours, bold text and action imagery.

Once the colour palettes have been established the designer should then create patterns and designs that are eye catching to your audience and drives them to a certain area on your website. This is called the CTA or call to action. This Call to action design needs to attract your visitors and direct them to what you want them to do. This design should be hassle free and help your visitors find what they’re looking for without having to search or spend time clicking through your site. If your target audience are impatient and easily irritated, this design will help keep them on track on your website.
As with everything, your site and designs need to be kept updated as your target audience’s behaviours can change quite often. Their behaviours will determine whether or not your CTA designed website will keep them interested, so you need to be aware of new design trends that your audience may not be aware that they are attracted to.
